Social Media Anxiety

Thursday, July 2, 2015

Drawing adventures continued week 1, week 2. I skipped a few weeks, but I might blog them later.

Here’s my final comic.

I decided to write about social media anxiety. It stars a character called Villz, a duck that looks like Donald Trump, and a whole load of insecurity. I hate how social media brings out approval seeking and quantified validation. I picked something ridiculous (a duck that actually DOES look like Trump) and then showed Villz falling apart when she gets no responses. Until, at last, she is noticed by a bot!

I started with thumbnails:

Before drawing in pencil on bristol board, and tracing in india ink:

I cleaned up the photos (notice the ink splotches) in Photoshop, changed the levels, and got carried away with colouring. It was a lot of fun and I’m really glad I did the course!
