I’ve rejigged my blog to try out Jekyll, and hosting on GitPages. It feels incredibly light compared with WordPress, which I’d used since 2008. It has felt bloated and clunky for a while, and I’ve dreaded making updates to the theme or accessing the control panel which changed drastically between visits. Making a post using Jekyll is only slightly fiddly (make a new Markdown file in _posts) and is much better than using the WordPress control panel.
I got started using this. Of course, it wasn’t as simple as that (I ran into permissions problems which I still haven’t managed to fix).
Oh, and thanks to James Aylett for helping me to solve a fiddly installation problem.
